i was sitting at the piano
watching all of the kids
play and laugh   and joke and smile

it was hard for me to find
something positive
in that moment

everything I knew
was falling apart

the certainty I had
in living forever

the clean record
pre-divorce

some of my closer friends
drifted away slowly

"I'm surprised to see that you..."

and business failure
and starting over

deciding what parts of you to keep

somehow
this was the beginning of hope
for me

sure   it might sound wicked simple
the song is short
just piano
and organ

for using the runway I have left
to pursue the promotion of music

but those who know me best know
